You can cook, why don't you cook this year and invite a few friends over, and of course your mother.

My dad use to do the same thing you do...send me a check and ask me to get the kids gifts, then when he drove down, I'd make him wrap his presents. There was no way I was letting him out of all the fun..

My parents were divorced when I was a year old, so he wasn't around me much, but once I had the grandbabies, he came over all the time. I think he realized what he'd missed out on for so many years. My brother was always his favorite, but once I had the grandbabies, and he found he was more than welcome in my home, he became a permanent part of our Christmas.

I'm so glad the kids got to know him. He was a character, to say the least. He saw Big Foot and had a talking dog.
