A few snippets from a brokerage report regd competition to Stereotaxis: "Magnetecs, a privately held company, has apparently stayed under investors radar screens, but recent patent filings reveal a new magnetic platform that appears to have uniqueintellectual property. We believe that a prototype of the CGCI system has been completed and that trials for approval may begin soon. Magnetecs appears to have a proprietary system to generate a magnetic field to manipulate a catheter, as well as unique catheter designs with mapping and ablating potential.The CGCI system uses six magnet coils enabling it to generate more torque and force on the catheter than Niobe while consuming less power. The CGCI also shields the room from magnetic waves and has a similar capability as Niobe to move the magnets out of the way for imaging. It is unclear if a new cath lab needs to be built for CGCI but, by appearances, the magnetic elements do not weigh as much as Niobe. We are unsure of the current status of the product, as it appears to have been closely guarded. However, we are confident that a working model has been built and is potentially ready to enter clinical trials. Magnetecs is also developing a multi-function catheter that can ablate and map.
