BTW, I was never a scout. I had a childhood friend who was though. I thought their book had some neat stuff about camping out in it, but the badges and uniform stuff was silly and dorky. But hey its a fine organization for many people and it s/b allowed to exist for those who want to participate. And they s/b allowed to make their rules as to scout masters as they see fit.

Exactly, you were never a Scout, this person grew up a scout, he went to the meetings earned all the badges, did all the stuff necessary to reach it's highest rank. And it isn't that he applied to be a scout leader, he already was an assistant Scout master, he had earned the position. He was already in the position, and they decided to take it away.
