They agreed to continue the fight, they were not left "Holding the Bag". Canada as an example said it would not fight in Iraq, but it would supply troops to Afghanistan. So that other countries supplied troop specifically so that US Troops could be used in Iraq. I don't know what they told you on CNN but that is what the Canadian Government told canadians. The shambles in iraq was caused by the ongoing feud between Shia and Sunni Muslims. Saddam was a Sunni and the Shia have been abused for years. Getting even is a big part of Islam in case you have yet to be told. The people of Iraq in many places have water and power, however where the Sunnis and the Shia live close, nothing is possible until their anger and desire for revenge is sated. As long as Muslims are killing each other, no peace is possible, and a withdrawal of US Troops will likely mean a slaughter of one or the other.
