What is this "Armed Gunboats on the Great lakes". I have not heard that here, course, I am a long ways from there.

Well since the last war there has been a treaty, as you know Canadians and Americans have boasted about the world's longest undefended border. Without fanfare or telling Canadians (there might have been riots) Paul martin the last Liberal PM of Canada signed a deal with George Bush (I assume it was with George) anyway they vacated the condition of the Treaty of 1814 that said that no armed ships would patrol the Great lakes. I think they needed permission from the other side for movements of Warships. So the Coast Guard started or is starting weapons practise on the Great lakes, with I believe 50 calibre machine guns. There is a great deal of concern with the amount of Lead they will pollute the lakes with. But having dealt with Chretien, George probably was happy for any sign of co operation from Canada.

The world's longest undefended border died without even a modest defense or mild comment. Frankly anyone who lives on the border, thinks this is a pretty stupid idea. But boys and their toys...... I crossed the border thousands of times in my life, both ways, and in many places, armed boats is not only not the answer, it wasn't even the right question.
