I would be interested to see that should the Senate win a majority in the Senate, some of the Supreme court justices will opt to retire, thereby forcing Bush to go for a like-for-like replacement.

I would also not be surprised, if Cheney is forced to resign so as to make way for a understudy Republican candidate for the 2008 Presidency, possibly McCain. If that happens then McCain's vacated spot will be filled by a Democratic AZ governor. But the Repubs may decide that it is more important to have a strong candidate for 2008 like McCain than the Senate seat. besides, this would provide the Bush team the opportunity to strike a chord of reconciliation with the McCain camp.
