The Star has teamed up with Morningstar Canada to offer improved online investment tracking tools including Portfolios.

I don't know whether or not it will allow a portfolio to be shared in read only mode with everyone.

Today's announcement: thestar.com

Portfolio Manager: thestar.com

Registration required to use it, not to just read about it.

Actually the service provided by Bulba this year beats anything that I've ever seen any Portfolio software provide. ;-)

The Toronto Star has teamed up with one of the most respected financial information companies in North America to offer readers improved online investment tracking tools.

Morningstar Canada will provide thestar.com with the most comprehensive stock market and mutual fund data of any news site in Canada, as well as a powerful Portfolio Manager tool, charts and market analysis.

Morningstar Canada, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Morningstar Inc., is a market leader in investment information, with a database of thousands of stocks, mutual funds and other investment products. The company is well known to brokerage firms and investment advisers, but this marks its first partnership with a mass market newspaper.

?This partnership give our readers access to powerful stock and mutual fund tracking tools as well as timely insight and research,? said Phil Bingley, The Star?s Executive Editor. ?It will be invaluable in helping them make informed investment decisions.?

The Morningstar features include:

# Stock Centre:
providing basic market data and "Quick Take" reports on virtually every publicly traded North America company. The reports include stock price, volume and yields, performance comparisons and charts.

# Fund Centre: providing users with comparative performance data for Canadian mutual funds, with rates of return, before and after tax and charts and analysis.

# Portfolio Manager: a powerful tool to track investments, including charts that show performance by sector and investment type.

# My Watch List: a quick list of stocks you can watch throughout the day.

The move to Morningstar means some of the business tool links on thestar.com have changed, so please update your bookmarks. It also means that Portfolio Manager and My Watch List users must re-register. The process is quick, and you can open a second browser window simultaneously to help re-enter your portfolio information.

Our current Portfolio Manager will be available for 60 days.

With much more powerful tools and charts, plus a wider array of fund information, we know that it will be worth the effort to switch. Give it a try.
