If you watch international news casts and commentary, you cannot help to feel that Rumsfeld was a very deserving (and easy) fall guy. For a long time I do not see Cheney as a person worthy of his position, but to fire him is more complicated.

The news stories about the pictures in Iraq, the torture in Cuba, the blatant violation of the Geneva Convention, the official acknowledgement that they only try to adhere to the Geneva Convention if it is applicable, firing people that were not willing to bend rules, etc. has made Bush a very unwanted person in Europe.

I do not thing Bush has sufficient intellect to come up with devious schemes, his ability seems to be limited to rhetoric and selecting dismal advisors, Rove certainly must have been dense to not see that Rumsfeld was a liability, and to not select Lieberman he just proved that history repeats itself, and good opportunities are replaced by dumb decisions.
