I don't think there should be any career politicians.

With ten to twelve years you are short of a career but beyond a temporary duty. So you would have to see it as a phase in a broader career of diplomacy or law or something. If you went for a shorter period 2-4 years you could look at it as a duty that you leave your occupation for as a temporary responsibility.

In general, how do you see this working out for the representatives? I realise that specific cases would all be different.
