And that is followed with a "But it must be remembered that Allen shot himself in both feet with the "macaca" remark and his clumsy handling of the revelation of his Jewish heritage. Then he declined to talk to The Post for the profile. The profiles of both Webb and Allen were critical, but Webb's was leavened by his quotes."

And then she listed more informative articles. Normally people who do that aren't agreeing, they are disagreeing. All she was doing was sympathizing and acknowledging the complaint.

Ms. Howell is an ombudsman. Her job isn't to issue apologies. Her job is to address readers concerns about bias and other issues. As far as Allen went, she detailed what the complaints were and why they weren't really valid. She did express some concern over the lack of back up material for "Fifth Quarter". But, she also notes that the people who could clear it up, refused to talk about it.
