As we were discussing on the other thread (about extremists). Extreme times are required for extremists to get any footing. In the US, the extreme event was 9/11. In the Middle East, it is a whole host of stuff, mostly caused by the West's support for Israel and our desire for oil. We need to wean ourselves off not our oil dependency, but our tendency to treat the Middle East as the Old West. We need to remove, not add, reasons that terrorists can use to rally those against us. And we need to stop acting like asses. Just because the Soviet Union is gone does not mean we rule the world. Our unilateralism is creating second pole - and if we let that opposite pole be the Muslim world, we all screwed.
