At least we have had a clear exercise where these folks were shown to be a minority, with the most vocal out on the fringes, largely unelectable and unable to keep their favored politicians in power.

The dream of a permanent Republican majority recedes into the mist again for several years at least. I doubt the Dems will do much better over 6-12 years, but the Bush-Cheney-Rove era certainly opened the door to giving them a chance.

In the best of all possible worlds for the Repubs, McCain or someone likes him repositions the party in the actual center like Arnie out in CA and creates an unassailable centrist majority.

Not completely impossible once the neocons and Rovian assholes have been pushed aside. I loved hearing Rove's quote again today how he was getting 68 polls a week showing the Republicans would keep the House. In his own words on tape.

Lying little turd. Gotcha, LOL.
