Hi all; What I'd really like to know is why did Bush wait until AFTER the election to fire Rumsfeld? Bush could have fired him this past summer and I think the Republicans would still be in control of the senate. What an idiot.

I know a lot of Republicans are downcast at losing the house and senate to the Democrats, but the fact is that if it weren't for Bush, we'd be doing fine. Even with Bush and his stupid war, the swing elections went by on fraction of a percent margins.

This election was not a repudiation of the Republicans, so much as it was a repudiation of Bush and the war. Heck, Schwarzenegger easily won reelection as governor of California, a heavily Democratic state.

If I were Democratic, I would be worried about how well the Republicans did in this election. We've had Bush in office for 6 years now, that is normally enough to get the electorate pretty tired of hearing about the scandals of whichever party happens to be in office. And the Republicans signed the country up for a losing war. And despite all this, the Republicans still have over 200 house members elected.

What are the Democrats going to do when Bush's mistakes blow over? They don't have a plan in Iraq. The Republicans are going to blame them for the inevitable retreat. With the public still supporting Republicans in the worst of times, how is it going to look when we've had a few years of Democratic mismanagement and Bush is no longer around to pose as the poster boy for idiocy?
