Now that the Coast Guard has their 50 calibre machine guns, and they are going to learn how to use them. I am concerned that just like they do every day in the summer some Canadian Kid will be sneaking across the ditch, to drink or spend time with his friends and the Coast Guard will try to stop him, just like they have since I was young. All you need is one hot head, to shoot at a Canadian Vessel on the great lakes and kill someone, and American Canadian relationships will hit a low not seen since 1813.
This decision was kept from Canadians, and Canadians are not very forgiving when it comes to guns. I think this is/was a dumb idea. And as I say, the very first mistake will outrage the Canadian Public.

How long have you lived on the border? Most people who live there understand that it really is only there for a tax grab. Armed Coast Guard vessels with guns capable of taking out helicopters is making a huge change in how the border is going to be perceived. Add that to the move by the US to require Passports from Canadians, which is making many Canadians believe their business is not wanted in the US.

Here in the border towns, I am particularly fond of American Cream for my coffee, and generally have only American butter in the house. In order to run across the ditch for Cream and Butter, I am going to need a passport Even Americans will need their passports to get back into the US. Now to take a boat across for dinner I am going to be faced with 50 calibre machine guns. You don't see that this will make any difference.......
