Like any well balanced triple Libra, there is part of me that agrees with you, re public tolerance. There is also a time factor. There are only 2 years to do this; pragmatically, not even that, cuz there is an election in 2 years, which makes it moot.
But,I really think we have to. If the books get closed with no action, what we will have established over the last 15 years is that it is OK to delve into a president's sex life at the end of an open-ended fishing trip beginning with a rafting trip, or something, and impeach him when he doesn't want to tell 6 billion people about it. Can't say I blame him. It will also be OK to lie us into war, to lie in the State of the Onion speech, to torture, to engage in pre-emptive war, to break the UN Charter treaty we have signed, to issue signing orders ignoring everything you don't like, to be king.
What about the next pres?
Or the one after?
We can't let this stand as it is. Precedence.
Maybe the House can impeach, and send it to the Senate with a recommendation to let it die of old age. |
