I agree with whoever said we have to make sure this doesn't happen again more than we need to impeach.

We need legislation to roll back the imperial presidency more than we need to see Bush in the docket. We need to make sure our rights are protected against some jingoistic proto-Nazi in the oval office more than we need to see Cheney taking a perp-walk. Yes, let the truth come out. Investigate!! MAke sure the CIA and the NSA are insulated from political manipulation and can't be used on a whim to overturn our rights to some jack-booted swaggering faux patriot.

Yes, I want to see the war profiteers locked up, but moreso, I want to see the contracting process cleaned up. Yes, I want to nail the Niger doc forgers and dismantle the torture archipelago and protect whistleblowers and stop the generals from lying and dismantle the K-street corruption machine and all the rest. But unfortunately the country's tolerance for an impeachment for the time being has already been conditioned by the recent memory of republican abuse of the process. Let the truth come out. If it's bad enough, the republicans will lose more seats, more votes, more power.

And if it's really bad enough, it will be so clear that impeachment is possible that it can only hurt the reps more in 2008.
