"That's a tax hike no matter how you describe it." Not up on Prop 87. I gather that California doesn't have any severance taxes for oil? In Texas, every barrel of oil that is pumped, or cubic foot of natural gas that is extracted, is taxed. I know most of the other oil producing states have something similar. Except, I guess, California. No wonder y'all have an income tax.
