Hi geode00; Re: "2. This is a repudiation of radical Republicans and their incompetent, smarmy ways. They were even repudiated by other Republicans for their incompetent, smarmy ways."
Yes, and this is a good thing. I would rather be a member of the minority party than have the neoconservatives in the Republican party. You're quite welcome to have them back.
Re: "3. All of the nastiness, lying, cheating, intimidation, repression, etc. did not work. ..."
More emotional crap analysis. You guys treat these things like they were your home town football team.
Re: "5. In case you haven't noticed, none of the following is going away anytime soon with or without Bush: Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, Medicare insanity, the slowing economy, the gap in the economy, the rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer, the giant sucking sound of manufacturing jobs, the healthcare crisis, etc."
Yes, these problems don't go away. Except now, they get blamed on the Democrats.
Re: "6. Bush is bizarre. If he wasn't going to fire Rummy before the elections, he should at least wait a few weeks before firing him after them. It's just a slap in the face to all Republicans who lost as well as to the American public."
I see it as bad politics, but it isn't a slap in the face to anybody.
Re: "It wasn't just Bush (although he certainly helped) but all Republicans who walked in goosestep with him to head us into the abyss."
The election was mostly about Iraq as the pollsters have told us. But those same voters that reject Iraq now were gung ho back in 2003. And I don't see any great ideas from the Democrats for how to "win" over there.
Perhaps it's a good time to review what happened in Vietnam. The war started out run by the Democrats. After they proved incompetent, the Republicans made the mistake of taking over. After they proved incompetent, the US pulled out. Having more control over foreign policy is not going to be doing the Democrats a favor.
