The JD Edwards (JDEC) IPO was another smashing success for the mid-range financial market vendors. JDEC was suppose to come out around $15 but was priced at $23 and went straight to $36 before settling back to $33 on Friday. At $33 per share JDEC is about 5.3 times trailing 12-month revenues. While JDEC rarely competes directly with GPSI ot SOTA, it is another indication that the mid-range financial applications market is becoming a hot investment theme. I think this theme has a long ways to run. Some of these companies have the potential to be a PeopleSoft, Baan or SAP in their market space.
