The melting of sea ice may cause a slowing of absorption of carbon dioxide, and not the other way around. A scientific fact that has been proposed by much smarter researchers than you and I. In fact there is very little consensus in the scientific community, i.e. the people who really know what they are talking about ... about what is the cause of global warming, or that the present minor global temperature excursion, which is hardly significant so far, and has been exceeded several times in this millenium ... is directly tied to carbon dioxide. It is still possible that it is a co-incidence.
The climatic disaster of 535 was a far worse temperature excursion, and during 900 AD to 1100 AD, the temperature of the earth was much higher, and the sea level much higher than it is today. (more than 25 feet higher, as evinced by the raised beaches of Nova Scotia) In fact were are probably coming out of a signficant cooling period. That the winters will warm and the summers cool is more probably a sign of an impending ice age, which can come on in about 40 years or less. BTW we are overdue a thousand years or more for another ice age, so brace yourself.
During the Viking era, the North West passage was open in the winter and was routinely navigated by the Norsemen. They probably sailed all the way to the BC coast, where remnants of their camps can be found.
The contribution of forest fires, volcanoes and wildlife to carbon dioxide production and climatic change is far greater in effect than man's contribution to CO2 production. As a matter of fact, the gaseous emissions of cattle (methane) is a more serious greenhouse contributor than all motor vehicles.
