Not to defend the Grand Mufti for his ideas, he was exiled out of Jerusalem for his fiery politics.

He did consult with Hitler, but more in a way to limit immigration into Palestine by European Jews.

Not unlike the Nazis, the Zionists wanted some living space (Palestine), as well ("Lebensraum" is the term the Nazis used, "Jewish Homeland" was the Zionists spin on the same goal), and the Grand Mufti was acting to limit this invasion of foreigners.

Keep in mind, Zionism began in the late 1880s and was not unknown to the Palestinians.

I suspect some, if not all, of this riots in the 1920s was not a result of the fears of the Palestinians.
