in writing puts, most of the premium disappears in the final week of the contract

as such, with the indexes basically marking time the past couple of weeks, there hasn't been much to be gained by being short puts

the fat part of the gains will come next week, assuming the stocks continue to trade flat to higher

i often wonder if i should just wait until the middle of the week prior to expiration to make my short put or long covered call trades, as that is the fat part of the cycle, but of course there are often trades that i put on early in the cycle which are way in the money by that time, so i would miss those trades completely
