Yes, you're right on the 'contribution'. Let me amend it to 'no significant contribution', as we have shouldered the vast majority of the cost. With Britain making noises like they want out, we may soon find ourselves the sole occupiers.

I think a coalition is necessary, not just from a logistical point of view, but from a legitimacy viewpoint. If you go in with a larger coalition, like the one Bush 41 had, then you are more likely to get help when needed. Remember when Bush asked for more help in Iraq? He got a lot of people thumbing their noses at him, because he didn't take the necessary time to build a coalition from the start. In fact, he was viewed as acting completely unilaterally (remember the recent British revelations that Bush had already made his mind up to go before supposedly 'consulting' with Blair).
