District by district, it was a very close election. Interestingly, some of the most liberal republicans were tossed out. Even republican Lincoln Chaffee, who voted against the war and voted against Bush, was defeated.

I think the Democrats chose good candidates, mostly in the middle, and got their base out to vote. A good portion of Bush's base is turned off by his profligate spending, illegal alien amnesty program, and seeming mismanagement of the war.
