Well the American public will be even more furious when they realize the economy and fuel prices are what is at stake in Iraq. The impact to these will much longer lasting than a AQ terrorist attack on Americans.

Leaving Iraq to finds its way between the Sunni's and Shiites, AQ i.e. Iran against the rest is not a solution.

Civil war and anarchy even contained to Iraq would put gasoline well over $3 if Iraq stops exporting. If Iraq manages to impact its neighbors production again?

Look at how long it is taking us to restore post Katrina. Post civil war in that area will take much much longer.

The Democrats wont have Bush to blame for long. All the ethanol and green issues wont make one bit of difference if the Persian Gulf region cannot maintain present oil production.
