'The Queen', we thought, was quite good. Helen Mirren was perfect. Thought the whole thing was wonderfully cast. And it did not topple over into maudlin mewlings. Makes me wonder how much was true, based on some accounts, and how much was imagined. At any rate, tip-top, I say....

Also gives one pause to think about the role of celebrity in modern culture. The Greeks and Romans had their pantheons of gods. Perhaps celebrities today fill a similar role. Idolized and scorned, they provide entertainment for the masses. We are not so removed from bread and circuses, methinks.
