Resveratrol is the spelling. It has been blamed for the French paradox, where the french kill a pair of high fat ducks and eat them, every day, but don't get hear disease as much as other euros. Why? They do drink prodigious amounts of red vino in a chauvinistic frenzy, but they also consume inordinates amounts of fruit, the highest in Europe. Where does the blame lie for their low cholesterol?
The fact is the meat in France is not great. It is a far greater tradition to eat fish. Boullibasse, and national dish, is fish stew. With fish, a PUFA with omega threes, and the high folate, fiber and bioflavonoid intake of the french diet, you have enough without the resveratrol to account for lower cancer and heart disease that they enjoy. France is also a sunny country. French love to sunbathe in the nude on city streets. They also bicycle and take city transit in the nude. The combination of chalciferol (D3) from sunlight and fish is a positive correlator with low CVD.
The French pair a ducks is a no brainer. IT is not a wonder at all. With all they are doing right, it is a wonder they get heart diseas anywhere near our rates.
Quebec however has a long way to go. Excess pastry, fats, junk food shows in the population getting overweight and suffering inordinate HD. Getting good food and good seafood is hard in Quebec. You would think they would be inclined more to organics and healthy diets, given their natural leaning towards hippy-dippy stuff, but no, they prefer main stream garbage on their table and the slow death of arterial strangulation it seems.
It is high time we all stepped off the deep fried crisco bandwagon and eschwed all the artificial, high fat, excessive protein, hydrogenated, high fructose, high sugar, low food value, crap we are told is a good three squares a day. Our modern excessivly dextrinated, hybrid, low fiber, toxic contaminated diet is the obvious main cause of the epidemic obesity, heart diseas and cancer that afflict our population.
The prime factors in the fremch lower CVD are the following which are components of their high seafood, green garden vegetable - fruit diet.
1. pectin, hesperitin, rutin, quercetin. found in apples oranges onions, shallots.
2. magnesium, D3, found in fish and sunshine. D3 and magnesium are the world's cheapest most effective heart medications. add potassium and COQ10 and you most probably would not need anything else. Eat walnuts, garlic and onions like a bad habit, and medicine could be obviated.
3. alcohol and resveratrol. known to medical science for a century to reduce cholesterol markedly. few alcoholics suffer from hypercholesteremia. (Cooper, Whitaker) alcohol is the most dangerous drug for reducing cholesterol. If one must imbibe it would be a great idea to take n-acetyl cysteine which will lock up the harmful aldehydes. Also hydrate lots, and take b 12 copiously to lubricate and refresh stiff platelets. Folic supplementation is also necessary with the alcohol diet. eat like a rabbit. Chardon de marie, and COQ10 are the alkies and the HD patients best friends as they clean and refresh the liver.
Resveratrol can be bought over the counter at most health food stores and pharamcies.
