It was a heck of a football game today.

Final Score:
Mini Wild Cats - 14

Mini Packers - 6

:o(

I have to really hand it to both teams, those kids played their hearts out right up until the end.

We started out with a beautiful opening drive that ate up almost the entire 1st quarter. We pounded it into the endzone and appeared to be unstoppable.

The defense then completely shut them down and at the end of the first half we went into the locker room up 6-0.

Everything came unraveled in the 2nd half. They broke free on a broken tackle and ran 40 yards for a TD.

We stopped the extra point. Score tied 6-6.

Fourth quarter with about 5 minutes left they break free again and run 40 yards for TD. The wind is at their back and they opt to kick for the 2 point conversion. (It is opposite the NFL rule at this age.) Kid nails it. 14-6 they go up.

We take the ball and begin driving.

Their star LB dives over the center on the snap and snaggs our QB who is in the process of tossing to our tailback.

Game goes into slow motion.

Ball rolls around for a few minutes and gets kicked and slapped about for another few minutes until two kids from opposing teams jumps on it. There is kicking, pulling and fighting as each tries to maintain possession.

The ref begins to sweat knowing he's going to have half the field yelling at him.

Wild Cats ball he points with his arm extended outward.

Farq.

Our defense goes back in and fights to pull the ball free and get back the ball.

It comes loose. Its a miracle I begin to think.

Our kid ends up with the ball!

Holy Moly!

Mr. Ref blows it dead saying the forward motion of the runner was stopped. (Phuckinguy.)

Their ball again.

They get a first down and the clock keeps ticking.

They knee the ball three times and the game is over.

Whatta battle.

The kids really played their hearts out and left everything on the field.

As a coach I feel terrible for them because it seems like the other team was better prepared and made better adjustments.

It really wasn't the kids who lost this one.

Had we done some of the substitutions differently, perhaps we would have the the right kids in the proper spots.

I just have such a sour taste in my mouth.

Tonight we are having our trophy awards dinner for the kids at the Elks Club banquet hall. I'll try my best to let the kids know how well they did this season and how much they really impressed us coaches.

It's just a damn shame we are having this party after a tough game like this...

Many of us just need some time to decompress.

However, I'm sure the kids will find a way for us to cheer up...

What a great group we have. I'll miss seeing these kids each week.
