Running for president requires HUGE ambition and committment. It is an exhausting process and means non-stop fundraising, organizing and speaking. There are few people who have the will and desire to go though the ordeal, and fewer still able to raise the millions of dollars required.
Mark Warner might have won, but decided not to. Gore might win, but so far hasn't made any moves, perhaps because he's a happy person these days and enjoys his current lifestyle. Hillary might not even run if she fears she will be too polarizing and cannot beat McCain. Obama might not run because he feels he and the country are not quite ready.
Therefore, in the end, we will have to choose between candidates willing to go for it. Besides dark horses and minor names, we might once again have to choose between Edwards and Kerry. Though you can count on Biden, Bayh and Richardson offering themselves. Vilsack is in too I guess.
That is why it is very important not to legitimize the GOP smear/mockery against Kerry for his botched joke. However awkward it was, it was still just a botched joke and nothing serious at all. And bottomline, we may need Kerry again, whether he is out top choice or not. Of course there's always the possibility Kerry may bow out. At this point you never know. |
