If a number of large hydro electric dams were built on the East side of the Andes in Peru, some of the electric power could be used to pipe water over the Andes towards Peru's interior and coast, where it could be used for agriculture, industry and cities.
The water would not need to come from the same dam that produce the power, but maybe some smaller dams located in a more favorable locations - with less pumping required, and less distance to travel.
This works pretty well in California, Oregon, and Washington.

If enough nuke plants are built in Brazil, then late at night, power oculd be sent the other way, pumping more water up the Andes. During the day, water would be released, flowing to the coast and providing addional power for Peru.

Peru could grow more out-of-season vegetables and fruits for export. Chile is making really good money doing this, and demand can expand enourmously as the price is brought down.
Not to mention being able to feed people a more varied diet, and create lots of agricutlural jobs.
Besides ariculture there are copper mines in Northern Chile & Souhtern Peru which are short of water. That water would make a nice export for Peru. |
