For your info, tofu (derived from soy beans) is an excellent source of vegetable proteins) and it is very popular with Buddhist monks and nuns and vegans (vegetarians) in general.

As Buddhist monks and nuns have been eating lots of tofu over a lifetime without experiencing ill-effects, it is rather dfficult to comprehend why tofu has been given a bad press now and then. Could it be that its popularity has caused it to be regarded as an unwelcome competitor for meats in general?
