In general, major vendors with channel programs fared much better in technology innovation and product excellence, channel executives reported.

Intel and Microsoft were judged the industry leaders in this category, for example, with B+ grades.

"Intel-I think we can all agree-has done an incredible job and continues to do so. They have created tremendous wealth at this table because of their ability to continue to create demand for computing systems along with our friends from Microsoft," said Jerre Stead, chairman and chief executive at Ingram Micro Inc., Santa Ana, Calif.

A host of vendors, including IBM, HP, Compaq, Sun and Netscape were close behind, all receiving a B from the channel executives. And Lotus and 3Com weighed in with ratings of B-

Only Apple did not receive an above-average grade in the product innovation and excellence category, rating a D+

COMS comes in below MSFT in product innovation? Huh? Just what has MSFT innovated lately? A web browser, big deal. What about the 56k modems and who innovated that? And AAPL comes out with a major and noteworthy upgrade to their Operating system and they get a D+.
Uh, this article wouldn't be biased toward MSFT would it? I'm just having a hard time putting innovation and Micosoft in the same sentence.
