An interesting opinion piece by John Martello on MSFT's Zune strategy and the reasons why Apple should be concerned

macobserver.com

A couple of things here. Apple is not the same company that MSFT competed against earlier. And it is not just what kind of iPod strategy you can come up with but as a total entertainment package. While MSFT has the xbox and some very limited success in the media pc market, Apple and its iPod/iTV/Media products so far have been very successful and presents a moving target for MSFT. Things change much more quickly now. It is even different than xbox which was competing in a much more mature market. But you only get new consoles every couple of years. You don't get new models every couple of months.

I agree with his opinion that MSFT is gunning for AAPL again and Apple needs to be concerned. The thing is though, Apple has been battling the other manufacturers for years and is more ready for the battle this time that in the past. As always, it will be interesting.
