The first fight I had that I can remember was against a girl. I was a little bit older but I think we were both about six or seven. She was faster than me, and she was sneaky. She had been tacking large crusty snowballs, bringing them close and hitting me in the back of the head with them. She got me a couple of times, than ran away when I tried to chase her afterwords. The next time I made sure I was aware and didn't outwardly react, then I spun and hit her in the mouth when she came in close. She went home crying and my mother was upset that I hit someone, but I told her "Mom, you don't understand, she really deserved it", and explained the situation.
I never got in to many fights. Some roughhousing with friends but not real fights. In 5th grade I got in to one, and won easily. Not that I fought well, I really had no idea how to fight, but the boy who started the fight, fought even worse. He hit me once and knocked my glasses off. My lack of fighting skill, combined with my being thrown off but not having my glasses, made me just throw wild punches, but he never landed another hit, and he gave up after about two or three hits from me. He wasn't hurt bad, he just didn't have the stomach for a fight. I guess he wanted to beat someone so he picked a fight with me, since I didn't look tough and he'd never seen me win (or be in) a fight, but he probably couldn't have beaten anyone his age or older in that school.
That's probably about it for real fights. A freshman tried to pick a fight with me when I was a sophomore in high school, but I talked him out of it.
I didn't really know how to fight until I took Tae Kwon Do later on, so its fortunate that I wasn't forced in to a lot of them. As a kid no one taught me how to defend myself. |
