but I don't understand the rationale for passing the costs of ones religious beliefs on to those of us without a religious affiliation.

That isn't what is being done.

Donations to Churches are tax deductable. Churches don't pay tax on income or property tax.
So the load of taxation is shifted to the rest of the property tax payers, and the rest of the taxpayers. There is no reason that Churches shouldn't pay property taxes.

You really didn't deal with Brumar's point. Arguing that the scouts should not discriminate against homosexual scout masters, isn't the same as making an argument that the BSA should be forced to accept homosexual scoutmasters.

In the case we were discussing, a young man had spent his youth in Scouting acheiving the rank of Eagle Scout, and the position of Assistant Scoutmaster. In a lecture at a University he admitted he was Gay, and it was mentioned in the local newspaper. The Scouts tossed him out of the Movement. It was/is my position that since he had spent much of his life in Scouting, surely they knew much about his character and about the person he is. An admission about his sexuality, didn't change the person he was. I don't believe he should have been tossed out of the scouts. Had there been any problems, that is different, but I just didn't think that a boy raised in the Scouting Movement, should be discarded like a sack of trash when he has upheld the best of the values of Scouting. It Demeans him and it shows the lack of Morals in the leadership of the Boy Scouts.

His Question about Brownies, how can I answer I don't know. I did suggest that single women would be the ones discriminated against in the Girl guides.
