Thank you very much. I spent the last 3 days trying to recover my old Compaq and I did it! AND I am now connected via DSL.

The Velocity Micro was not going to be ready until 12/04 and after googling the name, I came up with a few negatives and some thoughts on some accessories/upgrades that are not standard.

When I called to order they told me a special was being offered for the holidays and to call back in 10 days. I called them, it took a day or two to complete a proposal. Since they are closed on the weekend and I could not place an order until Monday, out of total frustration, I tackled the fried Compaq.

After 3 or 4 emails back and forth, with absolutely no progress, 'The HP/Compaq Total Care' team told me it was a hardware conflict - I told them I did not think so ... they were wrong.

... it just took persistence and some small degree of grey matter ;-) ... and whole 3 days. I wonder if HP will want to know how I did it.

Now I can procrastinate about a new computer ... for another month or two or three.
