"Donations to Churches are tax deductible. Churches don't pay tax on income or property tax."

Does not equal "passing the costs of ones religious beliefs on to those of us without a religious affiliation."

If Bob takes money from Mary, but not Bill, Mary isn't charging Bill or passing costs off to Bill. The fact that its the government doesn't change things.

The constitution doesn't actually call for a wall of separation between church and state, but a lot of people like that idea. Perhaps you do. If you want such a separation it works both ways. The state can't take from the church just as the church can't take from the state.

In the case we were discussing

I know the details you related about the case under consideration. Repeating them doesn't really achieve anything.

You can use them to make an argument that this specific person should be allowed to be a scoutmaster. Maybe even to make an argument that the BSA should change their policy. But even "the BSA should change its policy" is accepted, "should change", and "should be forced to change" are quite different.

His Question about Brownies, how can I answer I don't know

The situation seems strongly analogous. You don't know the answer as to the facts of the issue, but what's your opinion as to what the policy should be. Instead of "Do the girl scouts allow...", what's your answer to "Should the Girl Scouts allow single heterosexual men with no children in the program to go on camping trips with the girls?". I'm generally interested in an answer, this isn't a rhetorical ploy.

In Message 22989078
you try to change it to "Do the Girl Scouts allow single Women who have no children, go on camping trips with the girls.", but single women would mostly be heterosexual.

Getting back to your point about how the Boy Scouts know the character of the former assistant scoutmaster in question - It's a pretty good argument, but you can't really know for sure. That fact could be counteracted by the fact that you never know for sure about anyone and there isn't any good reason to think this particular scoutmaster is a major risk. Maybe that amounts to an argument for allowing him to be a scoutmaster, but the Boy Scouts are setting and following a general policy, not making a decision on one person.

I do think they should be able to set their own policy on this, whether or not I agree with the decision.
