In fact, Since the tax bill needs to be paid, those who are not Religious lack a tax dodge that the religious have.
Which means that the government take their money. The responsibility for doing that belongs to the government
And I believe that the Governments need to be forced to look at the matter. It used to be that most social work was done by churches, and that was part of the reason that Churches got civil help, because of their contribution to the community, that is no longer true.
OTOH I fully support the execution of Priests who sexually abuse children
Any abuser, or just priest? Any level of abuse gets the death penalty? Does a minimal to moderate amount of non-forced sexual contact with a slightly under-aged person deserve such a penalty or just raping children?
I think people in positions of authority should be held to higher standards rather than lower standards. Priests are symptomatic of the problem. A Priest uses his office to molest a series of children, and then because of his office gets a lesser sentence. Often Priests have a series of victims, but are never treated as serial rapists.
As for a minimal or non forced example of Sexual contact, I think that adults should leave underage children alone. Priests, Teachers, and Policemen are supposed to be examples to the rest of us, They should not be able to abuse their positions to commit rape and then use that position as a defence for a lesser sentence.
I can respect your opinion on that. But do you think the BSA should be forced to accept him? You do recognize that its a big jump from "should accept him" to "should be forced to accept him", right?
You are right, but on the day the Boy Scouts found out he was gay, he was an assistant scout leader, a respected member of the Boy Scouts and the Boy Scouts had no problem with him in that position. So he was penalized for doing nothing wrong.
I think they owe him an apology, do I think they should be forced to take him back. At the time, it would have been the right thing to do. But society isn't that far along yet. |
