Prefer the current situation to what? The current situation is specific. I don't have another specific situation to compare it to. I can't even imagine one based on your ideas that would be meaningful (not just ratings on missed votes), and realistic.

I suppose if I get to create the "objective grading system" I'd prefer it, but of course that wouldn't get to be the case, and many things others would see as positive achievements I would see as exactly the opposite.

By default I like the idea that people should be able to vote for the people they want to represent them. Any deviations from that standard would require reasonably strong justification. There might be enough justification for some form of term limits, but even then it would be compromising on a minor point of principle in order to get a possible moderate to large practical benefit.

To figure the practical benefit of an "objective grading system" I would have to see the system. I can imagine a system that's beneficial, and that I would accept, but I don't see how it could be objective, or how it could represent an consensus opinion, without being very simple and not addressing the most important concerns. Politics is largely subjective. If you ignore the political issues, then the ratings aren't very meaningful. If you include political issues then they aren't objective.

Do you have any specific ideas about what would be rated and how?
