So, do you believe that 'spilling the seed' is killing life? How can it be killing if there was no intent on bringing that seed to life? Sorry, I was raised a Catholic, and we were always told that it was a sin to NOT procreate, which I came to realize was a ridiculous position (and one of the reasons I'm not a 'retired Catholic').

The 'starting gun' for the current slew of stem cell research has been new technologies that enable this line of research. Adult stem cell research is 'easier', in relative terms, because it involves using existing cells in certain applications. Embryonic stem cell research is orders of magnitude more difficult because the goal is to utilize 'blank' cells in new ways.

I think the debate is more about this: should a majority of a population decide to spend their tax money on promising research that will benefit all? I'd personally like to see citizens be able to exert a little more control over their tax dollars (not a lot, but at least a little more :)
