That's how democracy works. It's like the court system -- to reach any semblance of justice and truth where you need a prosecutor and a defender to strongly argue their sides no matter the actual truth of the matter.

It's dialectical. Progress occurs when seemingly intractable ideas -- thesis and antithesis -- rub up against each other and produce a synthesis.

IMO you need people to take the radical environmental view to stand up against the development side. Whether or not I agree with them, I am very glad they are there to hold feet ot the fire.

Rachel Carson was seen as radical when The Silent Spring was first published, but thanks to the efforts of many, the truth of her arguments was exposed and the views expressed in her book have become mainstream.
