I'm not sure there is another side to this sort of stuff:

"According to insiders, Rhode worked with Feith to purge career Defense officials who weren't sufficiently enthusiastic about the muscular anti-Iraq crusade that Wolfowitz and Feith wanted. Rhode appeared to be "pulling people out of nooks and crannies of the Defense Intelligence Agency and other places to replace us with," says a former analyst. "They wanted nothing to do with the professional staff. And they wanted us the fuck out of there."

It's pretty clear the admin was drastically wrong on Iraq. Why was it wrong? It's pretty clear they pressured the intelligence gathering community to give them the data they wanted. I don't buy the "we went there just for the oil", or "we went there for Israel". I think the Neocons really did believe their own bullshit- but it's still bullshit. And don't let anyone focus on some of the more conspiracy minded folks on the left, to get you to lose the thread of the stupidity of the right. It's all there. Bush and his little herd of Neocons were dreadfully foolish- which is why we are where we are now. Brilliance doesn't end up looking this bad.
