Iraq is such a total mess there is no correct plan. That opportunity was lost when Bush-Cheney invaded after snubbing the international community and insisting on a US-only occupation, probably in order to dominate the oil revenues. Of course none of that worked out. Then, after three years of Bushie accusaitons of "coward", "cut and run", "flipflopper", etc. we are in such a terrible mess over there than not even Einstein could figure out a "victory" scenario.

The best we can hope for now is, through increased diplomacy and bipartisanship, to find some sort of lesser evil which cuts our terrible losses and keeps the region.

Also remember, despite their enormous power on other fronts, the Dems cannot force Bush to do anything on Iraq. As commander in chief he and he alone has the authority to change course.
