I don't think it's ALL the governments fault. Businesses that post Spanish signs to attract Hispanic customers are doing so because they are an untapped resource. The big difference between now and when we were kids (IMO) is that air travel and interstate highways have spread the immigrant population out across the nation, rather than concentrating them in certain areas. If we are to blame anyone, it should be the Mexican government! They KNOW that their system can't support their population and they will have to move to the US in order to survive but they won't make English a mandatory subject in their schools. I honestly believe that the Hispanics will blend in with the American mainstream within a generation or 2, just as all the different ethnic groups did before them. At least they are starting at the bottom and working their way up, unlike the Pakistanis and East Indians that are moving here and taking the jobs we're putting our kids through college to get.
