Commentary by Mitch Stapley [MS], fixed income manager Fifth-Third Asset Management:

My concern in the entire discussions they had is they spent way too much time worried about currency manipulations when in fact if you've got Honda producing 80% of the vehicles they sell in the US in the US, you're missing the point. You need to focus your time with the president on pension costs and health care costs. That's what's going to turn these companies around.

Reporter [CNBC]: Mitch, is there anything that right now would make these desireable companies companies to own. I understand that you focus on the bond side.

MS: No, we're still concerned about what these companies have to go through to get back to profitability. Ford just told us they're not going to have N American operations back to profitability until 2009. And with that kind of backdrop we still have to deal with the Master Labor Agreement in September 2007 and all of these issues, health care, pensions, are going to have to be dealt with. And if that in any way precipitates a strike by the UAW the financial cards are in the air on these guys.
