"What if one choses to be oppressed?"

Oppression is always a matter of personal choice.

We can fight against it, but what if the odds of victory are far beyond what would be a reasonable expectation.

For example: Would you recommend a parent fight Saddam's forces when Saddam holds their children with threats of torture? We know this was done.

If you can't fight against it you can speak against it.

People who speak against tyranical governments are often removed from the street, and are never heard from again. Check with any immigrants from North African or Middle Eastern countries. Many of them know they can never go home because of comments they have made at social gatherings while living here in the USA.

Finally, you can form opposition to the oppression in your heart. You then are left to suffer on earth but your soul remains clean of the evil. Some people find great peace and even describe a kind of freedom in carrying such a burden.

"Say a female Muslim who choses to obey Sharia laws.

I have met many females who choose to live according to Sharia guidelines. Many of them speak of it as an emboldening and liberating choice (in the sense that it affords them a traditional role that they like) rather than one that causes them harm. If that choice makes them happy, I don't see how it qualifies as oppressive. Nor do I think I should 'do' anything about it.

There are also women who've made that choice and suffer for it, at the hands of abusive males. Same could be said of non-muslims.
