Once you own a stock it becomes much like your pet dog. Everybody else can see that it is a noisy ill tempered ugly beast, but you love it and think it's wonderful. I have been an active investor for more than 20 years, and long ago learned that the single biggest mistake was to take big losses. A stock can only stay the same, go up or down a little, or go up and down a lot. If you avoid the "go down a lot" you will do fine in the long run.
The trouble about stops is that I have never found a rational place to put them- any level is emperic. A 50 day MA is no more rational than a 49 day MA or a 51 day MA. Mostly I just sell based on a gut feeling. I sold half my CYMI the week before it crashed. Buying decisions are easier than selling decisions.
