Dell thread,

I am very green when it comes to investing, but have learned a great deal by lurking on this thread since late June when I took a small long position in Dell. Thanks for the continuing education!

I recently paid my dues to have the priveledge of posting and would like to ask those of you in the know the following. Why is it that most of you can be certain, or nearly so, that Dell (or CPQ, INTC etc.) will beat consensus estimates this quarter? The analysts that follow the PC industry surely have the same if not better info on PC sales as we do. They also know that companies like dell are somewhat conservative in their forcasts of future earnings. Further, they have an incentive to be as close to actual eps as possible. They spend all day analyzing the market and get paid for it. Why then, do most of you feel the analysts are wrong? If the answer to my question is that they are frequently wrong, why are they wrong so often? Thanks in advance,

Odeon
