If the GOP really moves to the center, I wouldn't object. If they move to the center just to get elected [a distinct possibility] and then go to the far right that would be bad.

The first 100 days. The Dems should start off with the minimum wage and the AMT. Iraq is a lose-lose proposition and they should make sure it stays a Bush/GOP war and toast them for it. I'd also like to see the Dems tackle pork. It was $3-4B/year under the Dems and it's grown to $40B/year under the Republicans. They should fix the AMT in concert with letting the tax reductions expire which would re-distribute the tax breaks somewhat down the income ladder. And they can eliminate that insane restriction that prohibits Medicare from negotiating prescription prices. With the exception of Iraq, all those legislative initiatives would be popular with the public and if the GOP wants to obstruct in the Senate it's a lose proposition for the GOP.

My primary objection to fast track is that Congress diminished their Constitutional authority and responsibilities. The same objection I've had with the line-item veto. Fast track authority isn't un-Constitutional as the line item veto was, but it's a Congressional cop-out. The pros of fast track are illusory. It presumes that the trade agreement was good to begin with. If it's good, it can move quickly within a normal Congressional review. IMO, "fast" in itself isn't a pro; these agreements are supposed to last years or decades. A few extra months of Congressional review and any subsequent renegotiation isn't all that important.

Re: WMD search. The first hit I find is Aug 2002 after a round of golf. Though I'm reluctant to extrapolate any inference from that fairly simple search.
