"I'm convinced that ...a dishonorable discharge"

Isn't that what was said to be required by regulations for anyone in George Dubbya's situation entering into the original 'last year' of his Guard enlistment (after failure to report, failure to respond to notices, suspension of flight status, etc.)?

And, isn't that what was said to have been avoided by a paper (so-called 'punishment') assignment extending his duty period to 'make up' for the unaccounted time?

The duty extension/reassignment is a matter of public record....

(By the way... assuming for the purposes of discussion that Kerry *did* receive a dishonorable, or less then honorable, military discharge at the end of service... I've always been curious about that part of the story. What was the less then honorable supposed to have been CAUSED by? It would seem that --- after the medals and honors, and after Nixon had Kerry placed on his 'enemies list' --- it would have been a pretty high profile matter, and would have required some major bureaucratic back-stopping to effectuate. ALWAYS been curious about that part of the allegation: what was the official CAUSE that would have been listed?)
